Many volunteers decide to assist with hospice following the death of a loved one in their own lives. Rather than focusing on death, hospice volunteering offers the opportunity to help someone find fulfillment and comfort during the final days of their life.
Suncrest welcomes the unique abilities and talents volunteers bring with them, allowing volunteers to support someone’s dignified end-of-life in multiple ways.
Direct Patient and Family Interactions
Directly interacting with patients and their families allows volunteers to provide emotional and practical support.
- provide friendly visits
- run errands for the family
- offer respite time for tired caregivers
Administrative Assistance
Volunteers can indirectly help patients by assisting in the Suncrest office.
- prepare packages or mailings
- make phone calls
- contribute to a newsletter
Each volunteer role allows Suncrest to provide better care to our patients.
Share Your Talents
Those with skills or licenses/certifications in various areas are welcome to share their talents with our patients whenever they are able. The possibilities are immense and can include:
- music (vocal, instrumental)
- massage
- energy work
- art/photography
- writing/journaling
- language translation
- baking/birthday celebrations
- pet therapy
- community speaking
- spiritual care
There is deep value in sharing your talents with someone at their end of life. Our volunteers agree that it is an experience which helps us put things into perspective while giving us a greater appreciation for life.

When I signed up to volunteer I knew the patient would benefit from some extra visits and companionship. What I did not expect was how much I would look forward to my visits because the patient made my day!
