Certified Nursing Assistants in Fremont do a lot of the heavy lifting in hospice care, working directly with patients on a day-to-day basis. While hospice patients get a lot of attention from their entire team of caregivers, their CNA is the one they spend the most time with. They’re the ones who carry out the daily plan of care, and that’s why they’re so important in patients’ lives.

hospice CNA FremontThe Process of Becoming a CNA

Not only do hospice CNAs have to be certified, but they must also be a good fit for hospice work. Not everyone is cut out for hospice work. Those employed in the industry are often asked about how they are able to do it. But contrary to finding the work depressing, many hospice workers in fact find it uplifting. It is true, they will not see their patients recover, but they find it rewarding to be able to make them a little happier and a little more comfortable in their last days.

What Does a CNA Do?

A CNA’s duties can differ depending on their patients’ needs, but many of them help with the activities of daily living, including assisting with bathing, dressing, and eating. They provide continuous care for hospice patients housed in a facility. For patients in hospice care at home, they may provide care a few times a week, every day or even more often.

However, CNAs do so much more than just carry out the hospice nurse’s plan of care. Some examples of tasks CNAs have done include helping a patient change her earrings, braiding hair, folding the newspaper open so it’s easier for the patient to do the crossword puzzle and putting the TV on so they can watch their favorite show.

CNAs frequently become dear, trusted friends of the patient, stepping in for family members who can’t be there due to work and child-care responsibilities. Families rely on CNAs because they’re on the front lines of patient care and are often the first ones to notice a change in the patient’s condition.
